Question by marverse_21: How do you differentiate real marble from man made marble and fake marble?
I’ve been trying to get ideas in the net on learning if your marble furniture is pure or fake. they say that real marble is really cold even when the temperature is hot. Does that also apply to furniture i.e. marble top dining table? How do I know if I have a fake one or a real one?

Real marble is cold to the touch, 11 degrees to be exact, than the air temperature I believe. It applies to all marble.

Question by James W: how can I clean an inlay-ed marble table from india?

The e is in layed with a design of semiprecious stones also, in a floral pattern

Best answer:

Answer by eskie lover
A lot depends on how it is inlaid. If the top is an inlaid design of all marble, use a stone cleaner like the new 409, TileLab or Countertop Magic stonecleaner. If the marble is inlaid into wood, the job becomes a little more difficult because you cannot use the marble cleaner on wood without damage and you cannot use the wood cleaner on marble without damage to the finish. You literally have to clean each inlaid piece of marble individually by applying the cleaner to a soft rag and cleaning that piece of marble by carefullly tracing it. Then using another rag, use the wood cleaner/polish to clean in between the pieces of marble.

I always try to find the item or one similar to it on ebay.com. Search the ended auctions to find out what items have sold for in the past. This will help you to know what things are approximately worth now without going through the hassle of having someone appraise them.

Question by Ferosia: How to remove tile inlay from coffee table?
I just bought this coffee table that has 4 -12″x12″ tiles inlayed into the top. It is a really out dated tile that I would love to replace with a more up to date style. How can I safely remove the tile without damaging the wood around it?

Best answer:

Answer by Dr. Strangelove
Break the tiles with a hammer. Start at the center and make a spot where you can get under the edges of the tiles. Use a chisel or wide screw driver to pry up the old tiles. They’re probably just glued down in a few spots and will come up easily.

Things You’ll Need:
Sponge
Cloth
Poultice
Plastic wrap
Tape
Cotton balls

Instructions
Step 1 Clean the marble with a soft sponge. Run the sponge under lukewarm water and squeeze out excess water until the sponge is barely damp. Rub the marble gently and dry it with a soft cloth.

Step 2 Use a poultice (a paper or powder material used to reabsorb the stain) if simple cleaning did not remove the stain. A poultice can be made with powdered whiting and hydrogen peroxide or, depending on the stain, a chemical-reducing agent.

Step 3 Make the poultice and prepare it for application. If you are using a powder as the poultice, mix it with the stain-removing chemical until it is the consistency of peanut butter. If you are using paper as a poultice, soak it in the stain-removing chemical.

Step 4 Dampen the stain with distilled water. This will fill the porous surface of the marble and isolate the stain for chemical removal.

Step 5 Apply the poultice to the stained area and cover the stain with plastic wrap. Tape the edges down to seal the poultice over the stained marble.

Step 6 Let the poultice dry all the way. This will allow the poultice to pull the stain from the marble.

Step 7 Remove the poultice from the stain by rinsing with water and drying with a cloth. Apply the poultice again if the stain was not removed.

Question by ressiegirl: How to remove glass ring stains from a marble table?
How do I remove glass ring stains from a marble table top? I’ve tried a couple of things, but I’m out of solutions. The top is pretty dull so I don’t know if re-waxing the top would work? Thoughts?

Best answer:

Answer by MSAD
I’ve used tooth paste (not the gel kind) and a tooth brush to remove glass rings from a wooden table. Never tried it on marble.

Here’s another suggestion I found on line. http://www.ehow.com/how_5877551_up-white-glass-ring-table.html

There are a couple of “marble polishes” on the market, i.e. Italian Craftsman polish, or Weinman that should work.

Week-end guests left a margarita sitting on a marble top night stand. It left what seems to be etched circles on the marble, when I tried wiping with a damp cloth the circles were rough. Someone please help!

Best answer:

Answer by GuitarGeorge
If it’s cultured marble, and there was lime in the margarita, the citric acid from the lime actually etched the marble. There are repair kits available. One site is here–>
