Question by Baseballgal: I am trying to find out the value of 3 Marble tables I want to sell?
Two of them are 28″x18″ with teak bases and one marble table top is 39″ long. I believe it is Italian marble approximately 40-50 years old in perfect condition.

The first one is very sleek, but the nice wooden legs keep it from looking cold.. The second looks busy.

You definitely can put a tablecloth on a stone-top table. Normally you’d use place mats because they’re more casual, but sometimes you want a dressier look, or you want a bigger splash of color. You can also put plates right on the bare tabletop for the most casual setting.

If you’re using candles on the table, a light-colored cloth can reflect light from the candles. It’s a pretty effect.

A lot depends on how it is inlaid. If the top is an inlaid design of all marble, use a stone cleaner like the new 409, TileLab or Countertop Magic stonecleaner. If the marble is inlaid into wood, the job becomes a little more difficult because you cannot use the marble cleaner on wood without damage and you cannot use the wood cleaner on marble without damage to the finish. You literally have to clean each inlaid piece of marble individually by applying the cleaner to a soft rag and cleaning that piece of marble by carefullly tracing it. Then using another rag, use the wood cleaner/polish to clean in between the pieces of marble.

Question by Doug B: Looking for any info on stone inlaid (marine scenes) tables on the 1st floor of the Prado?
Thirty or so years ago, I went through the Prado and was blown away by a series of ornate wooden tables in a first floor gallery topped by incredible maritime scenes formed of stone inlay. Looked positively watercolorish and I’ve never been able to find any information about them. My memory suggest to me that they were late 17th – mid 18th century, but it’s been a while. I’d really appreciate if someone could scratch this longstanding itch. Thanks!

Question by Jose and Shari C: Is there a dealer and/or person who purchases marble-top tables?
We have a set of 3 marble-top tables: 1 coffee table and 2 end tables. We’ve been trying to find dealers or buyers, to purchase either the whole table, or just the marble tops, but have been unsuccessful.

Try a consignment shop, list it in the paper or place an ad on either Craigslist or E-bay.
