Video of Table Top Wood Reflecting

This shows how wood reflects light differently according to which direction the grain is laying. As I turn the table top two points of the star appear to change color in relation to the two adjoining points of the star. The star Lazy Susan’s I make do the same thing, some more so than others, depending on the type of wood in them. To show this effect I only have one light on, off to the side overhead.

Contact edhesive……epoxy cracks because the wood can flex.

Question by Irony Of Poe: How do I make a tile inlay in a wood tabletop without damaging the wood around it?
I am making two end tables. For the top, I want to have a wood border with tile on the inside. How do I apply the grout between the tile and the wood without ruining the wood? Will finishing the wood first protect it from the grout? Won’t the wet grout damage the wood, even if it is only on there for a little bit?
Also, the base of the top was going to be plywood. Is there a better substitute to put the tile on other than plywood?

Best answer:

Answer by Rusty Nail
Build your exterior frame and put a piece of plywood under it at the proper depth so the tile will be even with the surface. Sand finish and seal all of the wood surfaces. You don’t want any moisture being absorbed by the wood. Now lay and grout your tile. Try not to scratch the wood surface. Apply another coat of finish to the wood after everything else is finished…Best of luck.

Neon Under Plexiglass, Wood Inlay?

inlay table tops:

Question by Jon S: Neon Under Plexiglass, Wood Inlay?
I would like to make myself a little end table out of wood, but in the center would like to have a cutout of the Monster Energy logo. Behind that then, I want to put neon green lights. How would I go about doing that? Does anyone have any good websites to refer to, because I can’t find any.

I want the table surface to be 100% smooth and glossy (I plan on coating the whole top with bar top epoxy). I would also like, IF POSSIBLE, to have the table look normal in the day time, with the “M” still being green in color, even without the light on. Maybe a neon green Plexiglas? Then I could sand it and have it opaque instead of clear?

Here is a picture of kind of how I would do it. I really can’t find much for pictures either.

Your thinking of burying the electric Neon Light/..I would not do that..becasue it may need to be replaced/
I’ll bet there is a more energy efficient light than NEON Gas Lighting–
I would also look at Thick Glass instead of Bar Top Epoxy/
You stated that with NO LIGHT–illumuination..you still want too see the Monster Energy-LOGO/../
===
So..as a suggestion..
If you’ve seen when the Shouelin Priests visit America they create these BIG-Sand-Murals/useing colored sand–they PAINT–incrediable Details on the Floor/
What about that idea in Crushed Glass..for the DUAL–attraction/
Or 2-differant LIGHT–resources..like a Border that lights the more DIM-feature/
I would think that even useing mirrors as a Base for some LIGHT..might be more resonable than NEON Gas Lighting–
===
With so much Re-Chargable Batteries about..I might try the LED-lights for a Mirror Base/shining upwards into the Crushed Glass(LOGO)..
Then a Border of Lights..shining across the Pattern/..
Seeing the LOGO..when the Table is shut down/really refers to ambient light–which is the light filling the room/..or a Rack of Studio Lights..
===
Sounds like a difficult project–
When I work with wood..I like to use screws and glue/
I just wonder about replacing some part(lighting)..
===
I read your POST(Question)for a couple of days..before writing this..Answer..I really don’t understand the idea for a table.

Question by dynamite181: in wood working , what will cause glue joints to come apart?
i decided to try building a table .i used maple and cherry combination each strip was no wider that 1 – 3/4 ” by 2″ thick (before sanding and planing).while making the table top i used more of the hard maple than cherry but did put 2 diamond inlays in it then banded the top in cherry.i ran the grains in multiple angles also to help make it look better.after sealing it with 5 coats of poly, 3 months later it is starting to come apart at the glue joints.the table has just been sitting in the room and my GF will not allow anyone to use it.i used Elmer’s carpenter wood glue.what would cause this ? is there a Special type glue i should be using?

Right Glue. The probable cause is toooooo much moisture in the wood.
